Bald Eagles

Large numbers of bald eagles nest in the upper Midwest. During the winter, they move south in search of open water on the Mississippi River. Typically, hundreds will spend the winter near the Mississippi and northwest Illinois. They will often congregate in the open water down river of the lock and dams on the river. On the coldest days, often hundreds can be seen together. These photos were taken near Lock and Dam 11, north of Dubuque, Iowa.

Prints of all photos are available for sale in a variety of sizes. Click here for ordering information.
